Sunday Wrap-Up

Hi loves,

So here goes another Sunday Wrap-Up!

Sunday is probably my favorite day of the week. It has proven to be the only day of the week I typically have for just me. Many people don’t like Sunday’s because that means the weekend is over, it is the start to another long work week. I completely understand. Often I have a lot of work to do on Sundays- little odds and ends to catch up on. Still, I find that I can do them in my own, lazy manner, with plenty of reading and random lounging sprinkled in. I prefer to think of Sundays as a rehabilitation type of day, not the start to another long work week, but the end of a great one.

1) This is my first Sunday of Summer. I finished my first year of college and start work tomorrow morning. It all seems to be happening very fast, but I thought I would share this lovely poem by Mary Oliver that I came across:

The Summer Day

Who made the world?
Who made the swan, and the black bear?
Who made the grasshopper?
This grasshopper, I mean-
the one who has flung herself out of the grass,
the one who is eating sugar out of my hand,
who is moving her jaws back and forth instead of up and down-
who is gazing around with her enormous and complicated eyes.
Now she lifts her pale forearms and thoroughly washes her face.
Now she snaps her wings open, and floats away.
I don’t know exactly what a prayer is.
I do know how to pay attention, how to fall down
into the grass, how to kneel in the grass,
how to be idle and blessed, how to stroll through the fields,
which is what I have been doing all day.
Tell me, what else should I have done?
Doesn’t everything die at last, and too soon?
Tell me, what is it you plan to do
With your one wild and precious life?

What a perfect poem to read and ponder on a Sunday afternoon!! Tell me becauseiamawoman readers, “What is it you plan to do / With your one wild and precious life? Let us know!! It is something everyone should ask themselves (and not just in a “get your life together with a good job etc” kind of way)

Also I apologize for the different style this Sunday, I just felt that this was more than enough to think about, without the other 2 or 3 thoughts of the week. Hope you don’t mind!

Happy Sunday!

P.S. Congratulations to my Aunt Gina (and my namesake) who is officially retiring on June 24th after 25 years in the same company. She can now live a part of her dream as “a stay at home farm wife and mother to my critters.” I love you Aunt Gina!!

This summer will be one for the record books, I can feel it already.
What is it that I plan to do with my one wild and precious life?
–I plan on remembering throughout the whole thing, that this one life I’m given is in fact wild and precious. Yano, savor everyday moments and all that jazz. I plan on attempting to stay as care-free as I am right now..but you know what they say..”If you want to make God laugh, just tell Him your plans.”
